Debt Consolidation

Debt Consolidation

Debt consolidation is a common solution that consumers think of when struggling with debt.  This involves getting a loan from a financial institution to  "consolidate" all their debts into one loan.  Some consumers even take out a mortgage to "consolidate" their debt.  Consolidation could be a trap as debt is being transferred from one place to another, but the debt still exists.  For consumers that qualify for consolidation this maybe a good option but you must consider the fact that you're just transferring debt.

Debt settlement vs Debt Consolidation

Debt settlement does not involve transferring of debt as it is not a loan.  Debt settlement is the process of negotiating the debt down and paying it off.  It does not require collateral like a mortgage does and no credit is required.
